Quality Management: An Overview

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this orientation program, participants will have an introductory understanding of TQM and begin to:

· describe the concepts and components that make up a TQM system,
· explain the rationale and approach for TQM,
· use appropriate techniques for identifying the customer,
· use appropriate techniques for understanding the customer,
· use appropriate techniques for identifying key processes,
· use appropriate techniques for conducting process improvement,
· explain the differences between manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments,
· use techniques that support non-manufacturing environments,
· explain and support the total involvement concept of leadership and organizational support,
· explain and support concepts of empowerment, teamwork, and training and education,
· use strategies for implementing TQM in their own environment.
